South West Trip Day 4 Sunday May 7, 2017

Today starts in Holbrook, AZ
And finishes in Albuquerque, NM

Places Visited Along The Way, Photos, and Notes
Got up and on the road by 8:30 from Holbrook, AZ
Would have left earlier but
those Pokémon's won't catch themselves
First stop was at the Petrified Forest National Park
Visiting here is an all or nothing kind of thing
To see it, you must travel 17 miles at 15 MPH
and the same length back.
I did do that in 2010 and was very pleased,
but this trip I did not want to spend the time.
So a photo and on my way
Aside from wind, the day was perfect for riding
Temps started out in low 60's and then rose to low 70's
later, touching the low 80's

Traffic was good, moving and not too heavy
I turned off the highway in Grants, NM found the city hall
And came upon a terrific photo-op

Then it dawned upon me that I did not know my license number

This page is now my pneumonic device
Albuquerque has two HD dealerships.
One I have visited more than once before
So I stopped at Duke City Harley-Davidson
for the usual paraphernalia
Nearby is the National Museum of Nuclear Science and History
so I stopped in.  It is quite worth while
Displays of bombs, misiles, scientific equipment
and airplanes to deliver the bombs

Thought inducing display had mechanical calulator machines

I used these in college, now they are ancient antiques

I was going to over-night in Albuquerque,
but it was only about 3:00, or so I thought
I still felt energetic, so off I went further

Sometimes, a chocolate dipped cone is exactly what a body needs
The old Route-66 in the vicinity of Tijeras, NM
has a
Route 66 Musical Road
I got off the highway and followed directions
and even came upon a sign that indicated musical road
but either it has healed since construction or has worn badly
There is not an obvious indication like a rumble strip beside a freeway
although, I do think I heard something like a very soft tone
from time to time as I hunted left and right
Perhaps the noise of a motorcycle is too much to overcome
Taking photos of the road while under way is challenging
I noticed that the sun low behind me made the clouds bright

Tried to take a photo over my shoulder
even more challenging
I arrived finally in Santa Rosa
This is much farther than I intended to go and I am bushed
I will explore the town tomorrow
